Solutions for Emergency Services

Original Air Date: Wednesday, December 22, 2010

A recent paper cites concerns around our province’s Public Safety Communication networks, including Fire, EMS and Police. The paper claims the systems have some inter-operability concerns that could put urban and rural residents at risk. Are the claims founded? If so, what can be done about it and what is realistic?

Issues such as incompatible equipment, limited funding and lack of coordination are to blame, according to the paper. Those in the line of duty say the issue is pressing, but its a complicated process currently being addressed.

Are residents at risk? Is our current system adequate? Or is more coordination needed to keep us ready for any emergency?

Joining us for this conversation is Ken Jones, Chair of the Capital Region Emergency Preparedness Partnership, and Deputy Fire Chief of Strathcona Country Emergency Services; Dr. Ron Kuban; President of Pegasus Emergency Management Consortium Corporation; and Mark Woods, Director of Critical Communication Solutions.
